Aegisub with the wxWidgets/Qt 6 backend for Linux
build 9889-wxQt-29fd2d8cc, x86_64
Aegisub is a subtitle editor for timing and typesetting text over video, best known for the Advanced SubStation Alpha (ASS/SSA) format. The official build still uses a legacy interface toolkit that struggles with modern dark/light themes on Linux.
Aegisub-wxQt is a fork that moves the interface to Qt 6 (the wxQt backend of wxWidgets) so the application follows the desktop theme and runs natively on modern desktops, while everything from regular Aegisub stays intact: timing, typesetting, Lua automation, spectrogram audio, FFMS2 video.
wxQt backend fixes are maintained on branch wxQt of the forks ufalsalman/Aegisub-wxQt and ufalsalman/wxWidgets.

QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland to override. On a normal desktop install the package manager resolves everything by itself (verified on Fedora 43 and Ubuntu 22.04). Use the package manager, not the low-level installer, so dependencies get pulled in:
sudo apt install ./aegisub-wxqt_9889_amd64.deb — apt fetches the Qt 6 packages automatically. If you already used dpkg and it complained about dependencies, run sudo apt -f install.sudo dnf install ./aegisub-wxqt-9889.wxqt.x86_64.rpm — dnf resolves the required libraries from the repos. On openSUSE: zypper in ./aegisub-wxqt-9889.wxqt.x86_64.rpm.pacman -U does not fetch dependencies from the repos. On a minimal install, first run sudo pacman -S --needed qt6-base (harmless if it is already present, which is the case on KDE), then sudo pacman -U aegisub-wxqt-9889-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst.
