May 15, 2019Paul Ford, our illustrious sysadmin, has mentioned tilde.club in his cover story for Wired. Has September come, then? I think not. There is too much shiny elsewhere to keep the freshmen and AOL kids occupied. There is definitely a lot of nostalgia about as the early geeks age. Lately I am obsessed with the idea of bringing back gopher.
October 13, 2014So, we've all had our nostalgic fun. Some calls have been made to move on and lose the Geocities "Under Construction" GIFs. Well, I can't help myself. We already have countless shared sites and the open web. This is a retro place and nostalgia seems appropriate. But I don't want to embalm the 20th century. Maybe we can all keep playing here and invent alternative histories where we didn't lose the web. Or, if we're really diligent, we can even figure out how to build Internet communities that harken to before the Eternal September.
October 4, 2014There are already some "social network" features being layered atop tilde.club. Is this human nature, or have we been trained by Facebook's dominance in content and communications to assume this need? My real site has not had a blogroll for almost a decade. But if we're going to do this thing, then let's give FOAF a chance!
October 1, 2014I am seriously being taken back to Nyx, here.
